Terry Kennedy played 24 times for Sheffield United and was a teammate of Manchester United captain Harry Maguire, having come through the ranks together.
He also represented Alfreton Town and Harrogate Town in the National League North.
Sadly, persistent knee problems meant Kennedy, who was nicknamed ‘the Ginger John Terry’, had to hang up his boots earlier than he would have hoped.
But this week, Kennedy’s life changed when he was informed he had won £1 million on the lottery.
The Sheff U youth product was on the phone to a lottery staff member with his ticket in hand while in his work attire and his priceless reaction was captured on camera by a friend.
His mates were also overjoyed for him, which made the whole thing even more special.
The video has racked up nearly 1.9 million views on Twitter and likes over 6,000 times.
Seeing someone win such a life-changing amount was already wonderful but soon word began to spread that it was Kennedy.
He and Maguire have had very different journeys since their days as a defensive duo in the Blades’ youth team.
But his big win will change his fortunes drastically and allow him to look after his family in a way they never would have dreamed of.
