Fans have taken to social media to mock Villarreal goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli following his poor performance against Liverpool in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.
Despite leading second leg of their semi-final clash 2-0 at half-time, Villarreal went on to lose the game 3-2 following some erratic goalkeeping decisions from the 29-year-old shot stopper.
The three-time capped Argentina international came under particular fire for Liverpool’s opening goal as he let Fabinho’s shot role through his legs just 17 minutes after the break.
He then conceded Liverpool’s second goal just five minutes later. The goalkeeper went on to embarrass himself again – rushing off his line to close down Sadio Mane before being easily sidestepped.
TalkSPORT host Jason Cundy was less than impressed with the 29-year-old’s performance, saying: ‘The goalkeeper, he’s a shocker, I’m sorry. He was at fault for four of the five goals.
How can you go into a Champions League semi-final with a goalkeeper that isn’t good enough to be an understudy in the Championship?
‘Honestly, Sam Johnstone, there’s a lot of clubs after him, he’s out of contract, he’s a better goalkeeper than what I saw tonight and what I’ve seen over the two legs.’
Fans also took to social media to mock the goalkeeper – who signed by Manchester City in 2016 but never played a game.
One fan wrote: ‘Geronimo Rulli is deadarse a Liverpool fan, what is this keeping’. While another added: Geronimo Rulli should have asked Klopp nicely if he wanted to play for Liverpool. This is not the way to do it’.
One Twitter user said: ‘There will be bounties put out on Gerónimo Rulli’s name in Villarreal tonight’ before another replied saying: ‘There needs to be an investigation done on Villarreal goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli. Something fishy going on with him’.
Others took to the social media platform to write: ‘Geronimo Rulli is Liverpool’s man of the match
